Flavors-Fragrance Synthesis

Flavors-Fragrance Synthesis

Flavors and fragrances have been composing the integral components of a broad range of consumer goods and even some kinds of pharmaceutical products. The wide application of these aroma chemicals significantly enhances the pressure of supplying to meet the increasing needs. With the development of modern chemical industry, many spices, those are only extracted from certain animals or plants before, can be prepared by chemical synthetic methods. Synthetic perfume has gradually replaced the dominant position of natural spices because of its many advantages such as pure fragrance, low price and mass production.

Application of Flavors-Fragrance Synthesis

  • Consumers require transparency in flavor ingredients, including full disclosure of flavor ingredients in household cleaning and personal care products.
  • Consumer and business concerns about the sustainability and environmental impact of certain FHF ingredients, such as vanilla, sandalwood, and blackwood.
  • Social media, consumer activists, advocacy groups and retailers are increasingly influential in shaping discussions about the ingredients of food and personal care products.

Below is a list of our Flavors-fragrance Synthesis Methods:

Total Synthesis

Total synthesis is a method of synthesizing perfume by a series of organic synthesis reactions which are based on a variety of basic chemical products. Petroleum chemical and coal chemical products are the most commonly used raw materials during such procedure. Taking the synthesis of karanal as an example, it was prepared by 2-methyl diethyl malonate, 2-bromobuta-ne and privet aldehyde through alkylation、restore and aldol condensation reactions.

Semisynthesis, also known as partial chemical synthesis, represents a chemical synthetic approach to produce desirable substances with compounds isolated from natural sources acting as the starting materials. Compared with the total synthesis, chemical compounds produced by semisynthetic method generally have a higher molecular weight and more complex molecular structure.

In the fermentation engineering, biosynthesis or biotransformation can be used to prepare natural flavors and fragrances; the use of enzyme engineering can produce a lot of flavor and perfume precursors. Genetic engineering can transfer and express one gene of certain microorganisms, such as escherichia coli, bacillus, yeasts, and thus increase the yield of a specific enzyme and increase the yield of the target.
